Compression socks are designed to improve blood circulation and reduce swelling of the lower legs. Improved circulation allows less blood pooling and deoxygenated blood is more efficiently cleansed of lactates leading to improved power and less fatique.

Compression socks post exercise have also been shown to have a significant beneficial effect.  An intense bout of physical exercise can lead to mocrtrauma which leads to the release of enzymes such as creatin-kinase and lactate into the bloodstream.  This also occurs in endurance exercise e.g. marathon running, when blood tends to pool in the lower leg extending the excretion time of these waste products. The use of compression socks post exercise has been scientifically shown to reduce both of these affects and speed up recovery times.
